Phantom Kunai is a Prosthetic Tool in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, equipped via the Prosthetic Arm and which can be used alongside the primary weapon, the Kusabimaru, in the other, biological, hand.
These Tools, varying from the Loaded Shuriken to the Shinobi Firecracker, are equipped via the Prosthetic Arm and can be swapped out on the fly, allowing for creative and innovative solutions to the many exploratory challenges the player may face.
How to use Phantom Kunai
- Along with the components, requires the player to have acquired the Mechanical Barrel after defeating Gyoubu Oniwa and giving it to the Sculptor, allowing the creation of Prosthetic Tool Upgrades.
- Similar to the attack used by Lady Butterfly during her boss fight, causes a number of phantom butterflies to appear and home in on the target of the attack.

Phantom Kunai Notes & TIps
- Increases the Spirit Emblem cost to 2 (doubling it) so is less useful as a general, all-purpose distraction/harassment tool compared to other Loaded Shuriken upgrades
- Anayama the Peddler presumably looted Lady Butterfly's original Phantom Kunai from the Hirata Estate after Wolf defeated her during the attack three years prior to the events of the game.
- Spinning shuriken damage plus 1.8x health damage from phantom butterflies (ignores blocking).
AnonymousThis is basically useless vs Inner Father. He zips around too fast for the butterflies to lock on that only 2 hit at most, and his mist raven counter ensures they miss. Not a good tool vs that boss.

In the first fight with Genichiro, he can block (or dodge?) Some of the butterflies. He doesn't dodge it per say, he blocks and they just fly right through him with out doing damage, though he will be hit by a few of them.

Owl and Monk bosses were taking significant damage from butterflies. Im not shure if that's because they are also vulnerable to Confetti (like apparition-type enemies) or not.

While it doesn't stun the enemy,using this on bosses with a short stun window rather than firecrackers normally leads to more damage than just a slash,but very little posture dmg

This sends out lady butterfly's yellow spirt butterflies,which cant be guarded against and if you charge the attack will send out I think 5 or 6 plus the original kunai

Is there any way to get this if you killed the merchant when he was in the Hirata estate? I did this thinking he wasn't an important npc and now I cant upgrade my prosthetic.
