Scrap Magnetite is a special Upgrade Material in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Scrap Magnetite is required for upgrading Prosthetic Tools, and the player will need to defeat specific Enemies in order to find it.
Scrap Magnetite Usage
- Bring this material to The Sculptor located at the Dilapidated Temple to upgrade mid-tier and high-tier blade based Prosthetic Tools.
Where to Find Scrap Magnetite
- Shugendo Memorial Mob - 2x can be bought for 330 sen at Mt. Kongo
- Abandoned Dungeon - 1x If you return to the well at which you started the game in, you can swim through the water in the back of the room which will lead you to the Abandoned Dungeon. In the boss arena, you can drop down and find a few items, including the Magnetite Scrap.
- Ashina Reservoir revisited- After defeating the Lone Shadow Longswordman.
- Ashina Castle - Upper Tower - Rare drop from Blue-Robed Samurai.
- This is the earliest viable place to farm this upgrade material, along with Divine Confetti from the same enemies.
- approx. 1/30 with Bell Demon and both Virtuous Deed skills
- Several can be easily farmed with stealth at the Ashina Castle - Antechamber idol
- Ashina Castle, - Near the Old Grave Idol - Drop from spear monk.
- Sunken Valley - Rare drop from white monkeys.
- Sunken Valley - 1x looted next to the Sculptor's Idol, near the dying NPC who talks about the Senpou bells.
- Sunken Valley - 1x looted at the arena where Snake Eyes Shirafuji is encountered.
- Sunken Valley - 1x looted on the righthand side platform filled with enemies after climbing up the ledge from the hanging bridge.
- Sunken Valley - 1x can be looted after grappling up to the right side from the path of the cave past the hanging bridge.
- Sunken Valley - 1x can be looted next to the Large Fan in the room where Long-Arm Centipede Giraffe is encountered.
- Sunken Valley Passage - 1x can be looted at the bottom floor of the Valley Floor Poison.
- Sunken Valley Passage - 1x can be obtained inside the Serpent Cave on top of a grapple point along with two other items.
- Ashina Depths - From the Poison filled pool, grapple onto the ledge, and ahead of the rocks, you'll find 2x; you'll also find 1 in the middle of the area of the pool and another nearby the hand of the Buddha's statue.
- Ashina Depths - 1x can be found in the area with the Headless.
- Mibu Village - Dropped by the purple-clad assassin upon killing him.
- Ashina Castle - Defeat Ashina Elite - Junsuze Saze to gain the item.
- Ashina Castle - Same room as Upper Tower - Kuro's Room idol
- Ashina Castle - After overrun with shinobi; 2x picked up from a dead nightjar on a roof. From Kuro's Room, go out the library window and to the left. Look down over the edge to see the nightjar.
- Ashina Castle - After overrun with shinobi; Commonly dropped in sets of 2 by the enemy outside the Castle Old Grave idol next to the Lone Shadow Swordsman
- Ashina Castle - Just before the Abandoned Dungeon Entrance idol is a Taro Troop (Bell) and 3 dogs. 1x is dropped upon killing him.
- Ashina Castle - Fairly common drop from the red dual wielding enemy lying in wait for the Ashina spearman to the left of the stairs after the castle has been invaded.
- Abandoned Dungeon - In the room in which you fight the Shichimen Warrior
- Fountainhead Palace - Dive under the building where the woman is found on the rooftop and swim toward the moon and keep the wall on your right to go past a group of aggressive fish to find 3
- Fountainhead Palace - Guaranteed drop from purple clothed, spear-wielding Okami Warrior
- Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo - Next to the Grounds Sculptor's Idol
- Near-guaranteed drop from the two spear mobs right outside the Main Hall idol in Senpou with the demon bell on (easy to farm with backstab and Bloodsmoke Ninjutsu) (Possibly only late game or with item drop skills. Tested with an hour of farming while mid-game and they drop roughly 1 Scrap Magnetite every 50 Scrap Iron and no Adamantite whatsoever, even with rung bell.) (Confirmed to require the first item drop skill. Farmed without and got scrap iron, unlocked and got magnetite/adamantite. Additionally, using a Mibu possession balloon seems to significantly improve adamantite drop rate.)
- Rare/Very Rare Drop from Infested Seeker (Parasite). Requires Mortal Blade Deathblow.

- Players can only carry a maximum of 99 material

fyi (and spoiler alert): you can't farm these in Senpou (the main hall idol) from the spear mobs before defeating Genichiro Ashina. Even with bell and the two monk item boost skills, I didn't get a single scrap magnetite, and I must've killed hundreds.

item drops skill is not required to get magnetite scrap from the spear dudes outside senpou main hall, its jsut rare. use demon bell, and pop a mibu balloon to increase chances, i got 3 magnetite per 20 scrap iron with this, no skill required

So you need 63 of these by my count across many tools:
Gouging Top - 3, Phantom Kunai - 3, Sen Throw - 4 , Lazulite Shuriken - 6
Cleave Spear - 3, Spiral Spear - 4
All Sabimaru upgrades - 4, 4 and then 8 for the Lazulite one
All Umbrella upgades - 3, 4 and 6
Aged Feather Mist Raven for some reason needs 2
Mountain Echo - 3, Malcontent - 4
Okinaga's Flame Vent - 2

Seems to be a very rare drop from normal Ashina troops if you have Demon Bell on. I farmed the two by the Ashina Outskirts Stairway idol and they would give me one every now and then.

The two scary dudes outside Senpou Main Hall. Without bell, you get Scrap Iron and rarely Scrap Magnetite. With Bell, Scrap Magnetite and rarely Adamentite. Results will vary depending on how far you are.
There are multiple strats here:
Noob strat: sprint in a straight line to the point between the two. Backstab the right one, collect items while going back to Idol.
Normal strat: Blood smoke Ninjutsu. If you have, use Ceremonial tanto to save on emblems first. Then do the same as above, but activate Ninjutsu and backstab the second one.
Peace strat: Golden vortex. Use tanto if you have. Ready the vortex at the door, sprint and release. Backstab one if possible, collect items and retreat.
Chad strat: combine Golden vortex and bloodsmoke ninjutsu. Sometimes it can fail to get a backstab but you still get the items from vortex.

Can be farmed after killing the boss of Ashina castle without demon bell from blue-robed sword enemies between the Ashina castle anteroom & dojo sculptors' idols. Killing the ~8 enemies on the same floor as the anteroom idol gives around 2-3 per run for me without mibu possession balloon.

Best spot to farm: Senpou temple - Main Hall. You need the bell demon on you to have it as a guaranteed drop from the twin blade guys just outside. Lock on to the one to the right, RUN to him. You will have to time the R1 buttonpress to backstab him. But you'll get the hang of it. Then use the bloodsmoke ninjutsu, sneak behind the second one, backstab and run back to idol. Rest, repeat. Nets you LOTS in a few minutes. You even earn spirit emblems, which you can improve further by using that ceremonial blade to give you +5 spirit emblem for vitality.
My favourite spot wit up to 5 Scrap Magnetite per ~35 seconds Setup: - Late Game - Castle has been invaded - Ashina Castle - Old Grave idol - Spear Monk - Use of golden Vortex - Bell Demon active The run: 1. From Old Grave idol turn around, up the stairs, kill enemy on the left first 2. Charge Vortex immediatly 3. Avoid Monk's Perilous Attack 4. Use Vortex from behind, then kill Monk My Stats: Vit 17, Attack 8

There are three mobs outside Senpou Temple - Main Hall wearing grass outfits and big hats (1 patrol, 2 back-to-back). With both Virtuous Deeds, or one Virtuous Deed and the Demon Bell, they drop mostly scrap iron with a rare chance of scrap magnetite. With both Virtuous Deeds AND the Demon Bell, they drop mostly scrap magnetite with a chance of scrap adamantite. Their drops can basically be "toggled" via the Demon Bell.

They must drop from spear monk later in game, only main boss i have killed is horsey guy and spear monk only drops sugar

With bell I got one in Hirata Estate from a guard on the first bridge. Maybe a fluke? It definitely happened.
guaranteed drop by the spear monk behind old grave idol BUT only after defeating the Guardian Ape & ringing the demon bell.

I think the earliest it drops is from the white monkeys in sunken valley. Its the only place where it is dropping for me right now. It is not dusk yet. I have killed genichiro, butterfly and folding. I dont have the bell but I have the 2 skills that increase drops.

[spoilers removed] Go to the Old Grave Idol and turn around. Turn right and on the bridge is a spear monk. While using golden vortex (use the tanto if you wanna save emblems) I consistently get 4 scrap magnetite. Occasionally I'll get an adamantite scrap.

When the game time becomes sunset, the spear monk near the Old Grave Idol consistently drops 2 magnetite. Prior he only drops scrap iron.

It seems there are only drops of scrap magnetite in late game, because i try in all places where the people and guides say and only get iron scrap.
I tried farming the purple guy by the Old Grave Idol, the run to the bridge is quick and as he jumps on another enemy from the roof i could get a backstap on him consistently. I used a mibu possession balloon for better drops, dont remember how many i got, but i got 6-7 slightly inefficient runs in, i think a more efficient balloon could get 8 or 9 runs in.

The spear monk near the Old Grave Sculptor's Idol drops two Scrap Magnetite every time I kill him. Spoilers below I have the Bell Demon buff active, no item drop bonuses from anything else, and have picked and finished the Shura ending.

I just farmed the blue samurai in ashina castle for at least an hour now, even with demon bell on, there were no magnetite scrap droped. Sure they don't only drop it later, when I got further in the game?!
If you do it outside Main Hall you can get alot if u use gachiin to sneak between the two and use golden vortex -> backstab one -> bloodsmoke -> backstab second (did it without belldemon).
