Taking damage from apparition-type enemies will fill the mind and body with Terror. Guarding such attacks does not prevent Terror from accumulating. Those overcome with Terror are known to die. |
Terror (怖) is a Status Abnormality in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The Terror effect is so powerful that players die if the terror gauge is completely filled.
How to Cure Terror
Terror buildup can be faster than other effects, so it's advisable to Deflect blows rather than block them, as deflecting can prevent terror buildup.
Phoenix's Lilac Umbrella will prevent all Terror status buildup when open, even when blocking (not deflecting) without Kuro's charm.
Terror, Shock, and Enfeebled status effects cannot be cured by any item once the meter is filled, although Terror buildup can be removed via items.
Players can remove and gain temporary increased resistance to Terror buildup by using the Pacifying Agent or the Mottled Purple Gourd item.
Sekiro might suffer the Terror status abnormality if he is near a Terror-inducing enemy. Enemies with Terror attacks are apparition-type enemies and include:
- Headless
- Shichimen Warrior
- Guardian Ape (Phase 2 only)
- Headless Ape
- True Corrupted Monk (Phase 3 only)
- Mibu Villager (Despite not being apparition type, their projectiles can inflict Terror buildup.)

Sekiro when he's fighting the most talented swordsman in the entirety of Japan: Just another day at work
Sekiro when he sees a guy with purple aura around him throwing balls at him: So scared he literally dies right there

Always renewing Pacifying Agent and Divine Confetti just to die because of Terror in the end anyways = no fun at all.

Why doesn't Terror just make Wolf get paralyzed with fear and have reduced defense? It makes no ****ing sense that Terror kills you instantly.

Terror makes no sense. How does getting scared kill you? It should just lock you in place or reduce your Defense and Attack. Not just outright kill you.

Using Sekiro randomizer mod, sometimes I got Shichimen Warrior in the yard next to the first Chain Orge. If I had Puppeteer Ninjutsu and used on him, I can use him to attack enemy. Those "fireball" hit hard, although they don't incur "Terror" status on the enemy.

why miyazaki insists on these garbage one-shot mechanics? either balance this***** right or dont bother!

O'Rin of the Water does not possess terror buildup when she attacks.

Phoenix's Lilac Umbrella negates the Terror build-up from attacks. Effective against Shichimen's kamehameha.
