For those wondering, it IS possible to still get this key if you missed your opportunity listening to the two guards. From the Ashina Castle Travelpoint, enter the main doorway, you should see the big transcending stairway. Take a left before the stairway, It should be beside the corpse of a guard near a doorway. You might not see it due to there being wooden barriers in the way, but that's at least where I found it. I'm unsure if it's guaranteed to be there or it drops of an enemy near that location, as I was fighting practically at that location, but it should be there or one of the enemies there drop it.

So far, this seems to be an item you HAVE to pickup before certain events transpire, otherwise you will be locked out of getting the item, which stops you getting the upgrade tool. I will update this if I find another way to get either the key or access to the room to get the prosthetic tool.

Does anyone know if yhis is still obtainable after the Owl encounter?

It looks like I didnt kill the guards before an encounter removed those 2 guards. Am I***** out of luck?

You can find it after you done with blazing bull. you will see a lady prays after door opens and jump across, you see two soldiers, you need to kill soldiers for key tho
