Dried Serpent Viscera is a Key Item in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It is used to both complete the questline of a specific NPC and unlock an alternate ending.
Dried Serpent Viscera Usage
- The Dried Serpent Viscera and Fresh Serpent Viscera must be given to the Divine Child of Rejuvenation in order to both complete her questline and obtain the key item Frozen Tears, which is necessary should players want to obtain the Return (Dragon's Homecoming) ending of the game. (Refer to the Endings guide for further details.)
How to Find Dried Serpent Viscera
- Travel to the Sunken Valley Passage, Bodhisattva Valley Sculptor's Idol, and instead of heading towards the Guardian Ape, go down and to the right. There should be a poisonous bog.
- At this point, you will want to head deeper into the bog until you find the Toxic Memorial Mob merchant and a large cave behind him. In this cave is The Great Serpent/Serpent God, whose entire body wraps around the cave. Striking the body of the snake will cause it to smash anything near its body and will cause poison to spill from the geysers.
- Continue forward until you are facing the Great Serpent/Serpent God and the shrine it guards. Go down to the left, and there will be a platform, (you will not be able to see the platform due to fog) with a monkey on it which will lead you to a grapple point near the shrine. In order to pass the Great Serpent without suffering massive damage, you must do one of the following:
- With the Puppeteer Ninjutsu: You can control the monkey on the platform, you need to backstab and make him your puppet. he will climb and catch the attention of the serpent, allowing you to grapple the ledge and reach the shrine where the Dried Serpent Viscera lays.
- Without the Puppeteer Ninjutsu: However be warned the snake will strike when you grapple up which will likely end you by knocking you off the cliff. In order to survive you need at least 15 - 16 vitality and you will need to run towards the middle of the platform (after grappling up) to not get knocked off. Assuming you are able to survive, run towards the shrine and pray The Serpent not strike again.
- Without the Puppeteer Ninjutsu - Option 2: You will need the Mist Raven Prosthetic. When you grapple towards The Great Serpent, immediately use Mist Raven: it will let you dodge all damage and blink a short distance towards the house. Then just run the rest of the way. By far the safest method if you don't have the Ninjutsu.
- Without the Puppeteer Ninjutsu - Option 3: If you are quick enough you can bait an attack from the Serpent by taking a few steps into the bridge, and immediately take cover behind the pillar at the start of the bridge; you will then be able to run halfway through the bridge, and when the Serpent is about to strike again you can jump off to the left and immediately grapple back on, then run past the Serpent.
Dried Serpent Viscera Notes & Tips
- The Dried Serpent Viscera is one of the "fruit" referenced by the Old Hag found in Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo if you give her Rice.

Baited the serpent then ran, died, resurrected, ran again, made it

Did the mist raven thing. Somehow I didn't think of using puppeteer on the monkey. Tried brute forcing it from the grapple a couple times and then I realized that I have this prosthetic tool I never use.... Really easy.
Later I gave the rice to the old had and learned that I was supposed to do puppeteer again, like what you have to do to kill the other serpent... In hindsight, should have been obvious lel.

You can get past the snake super easily by baiting it to attack, running along side it, jumping off the left side, and grappling.

I found a weird bug where if you use a fistful of ash on the snake when it blocks you in the shrine with the viscera it gets instantly reset to neutral position. Maybe it works in other places like the area next to the everblossom where you stab it in the eye?

Accidentally managed to get past by simply sprinting towards the snake's charge, quickly resurrecting and finishing the sprint before it re-wound.

The easiest way to dodge the snake for me was to grapple from where the monkey is, then immediately jump back and grapple again.

I gave her a normal persimmon the first time she asked for one and i can't seem to be able to give her one of the hearts anymore. If I select the option "Give Persimmon" it says that I don't have any, even though i have both the dried, and the fresh serpent viscera. Anyone having the same problem? Did giving her the normal persimmon lock me out of her questline?

what do we need both of them for ? I have both but no idea where to use them. The lady at the temple doesnt seem to respond either.

You can use the mist raven tools to dodge the snakes hits. I did it with the aged feather mist raven, so I don't know if the normal mist raven works.

You can also use mist raven prosthetic to get through the snake’s attack

You can get past the snake without puppeteer. There's a pillar in front of the snake, keep peeking around the pillar until it attacks, run back and hide before it hits then run across the bridge and jump to the left and grapple before he can attack again

You can get through the snake in the valley by using the control ninjutsu on the monkey cowering below the snake to the left

Here's how you find this: From the idol Bodhisattva Valley in the Sunken Valley, jump down the cliff to the right. Far down you will see the poison swamp area which you need to head through. On your way you should encounter a white monkey with 2 katanas, and a tent shop. Past the latter the area changes to a dark cave. At the end of said cave is this item. You will have to get past the great snake first though. I barely made it through spam dodging. xD
when i went to kill the other serpent i forgot to do the second deathblow and it just ate me, but then i appeared in this one's location instead of dying, idk if its intentional.
