Full Sunken Valley Passage Walkthrough
There are two ways to arrive at the Sunken Valley. For the purposes of this walkthrough, we will assume players came from the Sunken Valley by using Kuro's Gun Fort Shrine Key.
The Snake
Arriving at the valley reveals a hanging bridge and the Great Serpent to the left of it. As you attempt to cross the bridge, the serpent will charge at you.
This breaks the bridge and drops you so be ready to grapple! If you make it to the other side, there are items but don't worry about them as we'll assume you're picking them up when you return here later.
Once at the bottom, heal yourself and dash through the perilous attacks to swim to shore and into a cave to unlock the Riven Cave Idol.
First Adamantite Scrap
From the Idol, grapple up twice and collect 1x Adamantite Scrap. Then continue on and you will find two large Buddha Statues. In this area you'll encounter Armored Monkeys, they yield 56XP.
Grapple across the Buddha's hands and then drop down to the left side and grapple across to stealth kill a monkey and obtain 3x Snap Seed. From here you can grapple up and get rid of another monkey.
Drop down next to the fallen Buddha head to obtain 1x Pacifying Agent.
Path 1: Toward Bodhisattva Valley Idol
There are two more monkeys to kill before dropping down, so head across the stone bridge and defeat them.
Drop down from here until you see a large cluster of monkeys. Near them, there's 1x Pacifying Agent and 3x Scrap Iron. From the Pacifying Agent, you can grapple across the cliff to get 1x Ungo's Sugar. Back to the monkey platform, grapple onto the nearby Buddha arm and then jump onto the rock's rope. You can walk carefully around it.
If you kill all the monkeys, you'll receive 1x Monkey Booze. This can be attempted with firecrackers and sweep attacks, but is easiest with an (undirected) Finger Whistle – obtained after defeating the upcoming boss.
Grapple across to commune with Bodhisattva Valley Idol and talk to the Old Woman. Dropping down the nearby ledges gives 1x Mibu Balloon of Soul.
Boss Fight: Guardian Ape
Ahead is a boss fight, the Guardian Ape. Defeating the ape rewards you with: Slender Finger, 4000XP. You can find Lotus of the Palace in a cave by crouching behind the area after the Guardian Ape boss encounter
Path 2: Valley Floor Poison
From the Monkey gathering: Grapple to the 3 large Buddha statues and go around their feet to defeat 3 monkeys and collect 1x Contact Medicine. Behind one of the statues, there are 3 Nightjar Ninja enemies guarding 3x Contact Medicine.
Near the Buddha's feet, You can get 3x Spirit Emblem from a ledge that leads to a drop toward another item: 2x Ako's Sugar. From here, grapple onto the branches and make your way down to the valley floor.
Be mindful: The water of the valley is poisonous and dual-wielding Elder Monkeys roam the area. These white dual-katana ones give 300XP and can drop Yellow Gunpowder as well as Pellet.
Note: The floor near the Bodhisattva Idol has 1x Yellow Gunpowder, 1x Heavy Coin Purse.
Looting the Bottom Floor
The main island that had several monkeys needs to be cleaned up, and since they attack you with poison it's best to do so quickly. Use Firecracker to stun them and kill them, then you can begin looting. 1x Scrap Magnetite. On the poison, there's 1x Light Coin Purse and your first 1x Fulminated Mercury. A nearby ledge has 1x Mibu Balloon of Soul.
Toxic Memorial Mob
Go toward the big dead tree trunk and loot 1x Ungo's Sugar, then look around it to spot the Toxic Memorial Mob merchant.
You might want to consider buying the Green Mossy Gourd as it diminishes poison buildup. Pick up 1x Snap Seed near this merchant.
Serpent Cave
The toxic cave nearby has 1x Antidote Powder, but beware of sudden enemies that appear when you approach. Below that, there are 3 Gecko, and you can see the body of the Great Serpent ahead.
You can sneak under the snake and past more sudden enemies, then kill 2 lizards to pick up 2x Fistful of Ash. After this, you'll see a grapple point. Before taking the grapple, moving left leads to a jump across the rock wall to a Scrap Magnetite item. Falling down from the rocks leads to more geckos on the floor of the cave as well as a few ambush enemies if you get to close to the walls. Head back to the grapple point mentioned previously to continue.
This leads to items and an ambush! So be ready to dodge as you pick 1x Pellet, 1x Scrap Magnetite and 1x Fistful of Ash.
Go to the opposite side of the snake to press on, and the head of the snake will finally see you. Go to the left of the pillar and drop down, then jump and grab to get to the 4x Spirit Emblem ahead.
Backstab the monkey and use the Puppeteer Ninjutsu on it and wait for it to distract the snake and grapple onto the snake location then run into the building.
Inside the temple, you will find 1x Dried Serpent Viscera. You can also find 1x Mibu Balloon of Soul here.
Exiting the Serpent Cave
Since the exit is now locked, grapple up and then follow the path to a nearby ledge with 3x Divine Confetti.
Grapple up again and you will emerge at Ashina Depths. You can go forward and commune with the Poison Pool Sculptor's Idol.
Defeating the Snake
If you did the Kite Puzzle at Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo, you can teleport to the Sunken Valley Cavern Idol (Unlocked after finishing the Puzzle) and walk forward to a beam. You'll be right on top of the Great Serpent and can drop onto it to deal damage.
This gives you 1x Fresh Serpent Viscera, unlocks the Great Serpent Trophy, and lands you on the other side of the hanging bridge that the serpent broke earlier.
Ahead you will get 1x Mibu Balloon of Soul and can loot 1x Dragon's Blood Droplet and 1x Bundled Jizo Statue.
After this, you can port to Ashina Depths to continue the game.Diving Loot
From the Riven Cave Idol, go to the lake and dive to find
- 1x Treasure Carp Scale
- 2x Treasure Carp

In the Guardian Ape fight video buddy says he throws a “rock” at you... That’s not a poisonous rock, that is a ripe handful of monkey faeces! Make sure to rinse off after the fight friends, good hunting!

The main walkthrough shouldn't encourage fighting Guardian Ape before visiting Ashina Depths/Mibu Village. Killing it at that point causes the otherwise optional Headless Ape boss, which many players struggle with, to become mandatory.

I dove and killed the serpent but then slid into the water so I warped to the last sculptor's idol. Now if I try to dive down it just kills me. Am I completely locked out of the items on the far side of the bridge?

Old Lady wasn't at the Bodhisattva Valley Idol until after I killed the serpent after the kite puzzle.

In the end of the text it says to DIVE in two locations, but you still don't know how to dive in this part, but just a little after in Ashina Depths

Maybe it should be noted that the special enemy in the wall, that stone wall spear wielded looks like by doesn’t respawn after I killed him the time I meet him. I messed around in the spot he showed up but nothing happened.

If you land on the snake and fail the second deathblow it will hold you in its mouth and bring you to the serpent cave where you will need to kill it, if you die here you will respawn in the sunken valley cavern and can attempt the drop again

If you dispel the Bell Demon near the old woman, she'll give additional dialog and an item.

Guide doesn't say anything about picking up the lotus of the palace for the main story.

I think there's 2 serpents. the other one is guarding the shrine inside the cave. cuz I happened to kill the serpent first before going inside the cave.

Another way to get past the snake in the end without using ninjutsu is to just grapple towards it and the moment you land just jump off the cliff the direction you came from. This will trigger the attack then mid-air just grapple back and run for it.

I somehow missed the monkeys and just used the mist raven to get past the snake and get the stone. That works I guess
Really loved the design of this area, the giant statues are so beautiful

you can skip the second phase of the ape boss if u hit him a lot when he s down

So I killed the snake and was on that other side, but fell off the cliff looking at the broken bridge. I can't seem to find any way back there to get the items on the other side of the Sunken Valley Passage. Anybody know of a way to get back over there?
So I got to the fcking ape dude and killed him, first try. Thought "well that was easy enough?". Then he can back WITHOUT A FCKING HEAD!! -> r.i.p. Mr Sekiro-san.
